McAULEY WATER STREET MISSION
90 LAFAYETTE STREET
NEW YORK, NY 10013
July 31, 1993
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your recent gift which is helping us
feed and shelter the hungry and homeless this summer.
We have a full house even during the warm weather. Our
expenses continue just as they do at any other time of the year.
And now you’ve helped us, just when we needed it most, during
these tough summer months.
Because of you, the homeless here in the New York City area
have a place of safety where they can take refuge. The food we
provide, the clean beds we offer, the showers and shaves we make
available all communicate a powerful message of love and support
to these people in need.
And that is possible because you care!
Again, please accept my heartfelt thanks. You are a true
friend of the homeless. Hod bless you
Sincerely,
James F. VarnHagen Executive Director

Dear Friends,
I am so grateful for the gift which you sent to help us
through our “summer slump.”
This has been a tough summer. The number of homeless and
hungry continues to increase. We have really felt the squeeze
financially.
Your gift is a big help! As I walk through the dining room
during any given mealtime and see hungry men and some women
eating, I lift a prayer of thanks to God for giving the Mission
friends like yourself, Your generosity is making a difference.
We are able to provide food, shelter, shaves and showers. Lives
are touched and turned around because you care.
Thanks again fore your generosity and the concern expressed
toward the work of helping the homeless. I am glad you are a
friend of McAuley Mission.
Sincerely,
James F. VarnHagen Executive Director
